Esterel is a synchronous programming language designed for the development of reactive systems, which are systems that maintain continuous interaction with their environment at a pace defined by external events, such as embedded systems, control systems, and real-time software. Esterel is used to specify and implement reactive behaviors by providing formal constructs that allow precise descriptions of parallelism, preemption, communication, and temporal relationships between events.
