Modula-2 is a general-purpose programming language designed by Niklaus Wirth in the late 1970s. It is a descendant of the Pascal programming language and was developed as a system programming language for the then-novel Lilith computer. Modula-2 emphasizes modular programming, which aids in the design of large and complex software systems by decomposing them into manageable, well-defined modules. Modula-2, though not as popular as contemporary programming languages, continues to be appreciated for its modularity, strong typing, and suitability for system programming. Modern implementations have kept it relevant by introducing new features and maintaining cross-platform support, ensuring that it remains a viable option for specific applications and educational purposes.
